Shoham Ben Harush, a soldier in the Nahal reconnaissance unit, fell in the fierce battles at Kerem Shalom on the first day of the "Iron Sword War". At first, Ben Harush, a 20-year-old resident of Hasfin, was brought to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center for treatment, but despite many efforts to save him, he was pronounced brain-respiratory dead.
After he was pronounced dead, a family requested, in accordance with his request, that his organs be transplanted and help save lives. His donation included a heart transplant in a 48-year-old man in Sheba, a lung transplant in a 59-year-old in Sheba, a liver transplant in a 61-year-old in Hadassah, a kidney transplant in a 69-year-old woman in Beilinson, and another kidney in a 57-year-old in Sheba.

"Shoham is the fifth of our six children," said father Ilan painfully. Good-looking and kind-hearted, a happy and humble guy. We knew he would want to serve as a combat veteran. He served in the segment of Nahal, and remained Shabbat on Simchat Torah. I heard stories that he fought valiantly at the Kerem Shalom outpost to prevent the terrorists from arriving. Regarding organ donation, I was debating between the importance of the matter and the emotion that said, 'Don't touch the child'... When I heard from my wife, Shoham's mother, who told her that he wanted to donate his organs... I realized that he had seen beyond what I had seen and I trusted his decision. Knowing that he saved lives gives comfort alongside the great pain." Martin Hamm said: "I feel that as dark as Hamas is, people like Shoham bring light."
